About this site

This site is intended to make it easy to find references from Bible passages to songs in the common UK Methodist hymn books ("Singing the Faith" and "Hymns and Psalms"), as an aid to presbyters, local preachers and worship leaders.

Bible reference formats

When entering a Bible reference, the book and chapter are required, although the book can be abbreviated so long as it's unambiguous. You can enter multiple chapters, individual verses or ranges within the same book. Optional sections may be in parentheses. Use "end" to indicate the end of a chapter. Examples:

• Gen 1 (all of Genesis chapter 1)
• Gen 1:5 (a single verse)
• Gen 1:5-10 (a single range of verses)
• Gen 1:5-10, 15, 20-25 (multiple parts)
• Gen 1:5-10 (15-17) 20-25 (multiple parts, one of which is optional)
• Gen 1:5-end (a range which ends at the end of the chapter)
• Gen 1:5, 2:5-10 (just verse 5 from chapter 1, and verses 5-10 from chapter 2)
• Gen 1:5-2:10 (chapter 1 from verse 5 onwards, and chapter 2 as far as verse 10)

BibleGateway links

The links in the Lectionary page and in the results always go to BibleGateway. The links do not specify a translation, and BibleGateway remembers whichever translation you've used most recently. While most links should work, for all translations links for the apocrypha may fail for some translations - usually if you just change to pick a translation which includes the apocrypha (e.g. New Revised Standard Version) and click on the search icon, the reading will show up. Please let me know if there are links which consistently fail to work though.
